Andrew,

Our Wirecast systems use the older Canon HV20 and HV30 cameras that have Firewire.

The newer USB Canon cameras that I've used do NOT work with Wirecast.

There must still be consumer camcorders that come with Firewire, but they are more and more rare. The higher end video cameras often still have Firewire but are much more expensive.

Hi,

Great article - thank you! From reading your later post on the Epiphan VGA2USB I understand you are now using the same set up as described above, but substituting the Epiphan for the TwinPact. So now your presenter's screen data is entering your recording computer by USB, and this data can be captured on the fly to Wirecast. Are you capturing the video from camcorder on the fly into wirecast? Your workflow diagram shows the camcorder connected by firewire; is this correct or is it in fact a USB connection? From what I can see on Canon's website their cameras do not have firewire (anymore?) Does a USB set up allow the data to transmit on the fly without hiccups?

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi There, as far as cabling goes, do you just have an extra long VGA cable going to the presenters podium? And which device do you currently use/recommend for the frame grabbing?

Thanks,
    Darryl

Hey Matt....sorry I missed you at Educause.

Mark is taking the initiative to get our groups together over pizza to discuss where we can learn from each other (as you guys are doing some very innovative things which we'd love to find a way to diffuse at the College).

Thanks for the plug in your blog - I'm just catching up with computing@thayer

Looks like we all take the same path!! I started with the TwinPact 100, but now have VGA2USB and VGA2USB LR. Much better solution. I have been recording conferences and uploading here:

There are lots of things we can improve and not much discussion on the web about these. Anyone willing to compare notes and experiences, please mail me at
